Valentines Weekend with the King!

For two nights only, Kevin Doyle Sings the Elvis Presley Story will commemorate the life of the King of Rock and Roll through his music in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre on the 12th and 13th February 2010.

Starring Ireland’s foremost Elvis performerKevin Doyle and his regular backing group the Way It Was orchestra, this is an updated version of the sell-out theatre show that always leaves the audience on their feet wanting more. In fact the show did so well last time around that Kevin and co. caught the eye of Elvis Presley Enterprises in the States and had to make some allowances in order to get their stamp of approval, hence Kevin Doyle sings the Elvis Presley Story was born!

In a new addition to the show, the group will be joined by the Valley Gospel Singers, now this time around there will be over 22 people on stage in full costume adding an extra vocal depth to the sound and recalling the music that Elvis himself loved to play

The live band will play all the major hits – from Elvis’ early recordings as he took his first steps in the world of rock, through to his ‘comeback’ TV special in 1968 and the towering live performances of the 1970s.

Stand-out numbers include That’s All Right, Heartbreak Hotel, Love Me Tender, It’s Now Or Never, An American Trilogy and of course, Suspicious Minds. The show also features film footage, special guest voiceovers to give audiences a rare look into Elvis’ life through sound, image and live performances.

Don’t miss the new show at the prestigious Olympia Theatre for two night only February 12th and 13th 2010. Tickets priced from €25.00 are on sale now from Ticketmaster and usual outlets nationwide.

Kevin and band members are available for interview or live performances.

Kevin & the band rock the Cork Opera House

Despite treacherous conditions Kevin and the band got to meet great Elvis and Rockl & Roll fans in Cork on Sunday 10th Jan. Snow hit the city that afternoon and escalated to such an extent that taxis and buses had stopped for hours before the event.

While this did make it impossible for some fans to make the journey the ones that did arrive were gratefully received by Kevin and the band. The 2 hour show left the crowd on their feet. All the members of the group followed Kevin out to the foyer after the show to thank members of the audience in person for their persistance in such dangerous driving conditions.

We would like to thank all the staff in the Cork Opera House for making us so welcome. We would like to give a special thanks to Dominic McSweeney for inviting us down. Finally, thanks again to all the audience for coming in to watch us. We hope to be back very soon to this fantastic venue in the great city of Cork.

Debut ‘Elvis Presley Songbook’ concert a success

Thanks to everyone who turned up to what was a very enjoyable night for the band in the Olympia Theatre. There was a great atmosphere generated that was fitting to the august 16th anniversary.

What a great way to premier of our new show ‘Kevin Doyle sings The Elvis Presley Songbook’. From the opening chords of Thus Spake Zarathustra (the 2001 theme) the show was met with great enthusiasm. Sunday evenings aren’t meant to be this lively… are they?

After a high energy ‘See See Rider’ where all the band and choir announced their arrival, Kevin started a soulful, gospel intro to ‘Proud Mary’. The scene was set.

The first half of the set seemed to fly after that, the hits flowing and the banter between crowd and Kevin as good as ever. The news of a couple getting engaged reached the stage and was met with the immortal lines from ‘My Way’: “And now, the end is near…” The price of spuds was discussed along with regular golf updates.

‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ and ‘If I Can Dream’ brought the curtain down on a first half that left all of us backstage happy but aware that we had to maintain a good level of application and concentration to deliver a similar second half.

The bell rings, seconds away - well the curtain call announcement actually. Using a brass intro straight from Las Vegas Kevin and the band launched into some rock & roll in the shape of ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ and ‘Promised Land’ followed quickly with ‘Polk Salad Annie’ and a guitar duelling ‘Johnny B Goode’. And now we’re at them…

‘American Trilogy’ found the audience in great voice and this was continued throughout this half. With a slight infestation of Beatles in the form of ‘Something/Hey Jude’ (á la Elvis circa 1971,) the band turned for home with hit after hit from what must be the most recognisable song catalogue any artist has ever produced.

Last night all of us involved realised how fortunate we are to be playing classic songs in a great venue and to such appreciative crowds. We are very lucky.

Rockin’ on the Radio

To kick off Elvis week Kevin called into some of Ireland’s finest radio stations for a chat.

His first stop was Dublin’s Country Mix 106.8FM where he met Lynsey Dolan on her show ‘Dublin’s Talking’, Country Mix’s flagship programme. Lynsey and Kevin discussed the origins of the new show as well as the history of Kevin’s collaborations with Elvis’ own musicians. If you get a chance do tune in to ‘Dublin’s Talking for two hours of chat every morning from 9am - from major topics of the day to whats what in Entertainment. [ http://www.countrymix.ie ]

Kevin then visited Declan Meehan in East Coast FM during his morning show. Again the conversation was about all things Elvis and Declan played a recording of Kevin and the band performing the king’s classic cut ‘I Just Can’t Help Believing’. The Morning Show with Declan Meehan weekdays at 9am. Armed with members of the Way it Was Orchestra Kevin next visited Ray, Jenny, Will and Mairead on the Ray D’arcy show on Today FM. The lads got to play a session live in the studio that consisted of the Elvis staple ‘A Little Less Conversation’ (not a really appropriate title for radio in hindsight!) and a request from Mairead for ‘The Look You Give That Guy’, originally sung by the Eels. In between times there was some chat about work, (as opposed to music!) and we got in the requisite plug for the concert in the Olympia at the weekend.

By the way, before I forget, get your ticket for the concert this Sunday, 16th August in the Olympia Theatre, before they sell out!

Kevin’s Saturday Night with Miriam

Kevin and the band performed live on RTE’s ‘Saturday with Miriam’ show on Saturday 18th July to promote their upcoming concert in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre on August 16th.

The song chosen for the performance was the classic ‘Suspicious Minds’ with the band and Kevin styling their version of the song on a blend of the original studio recording with the live, TCB Band style of the song. You can view the performance on YouTube by clicking here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZ_OH4ZrCeU

The song will also be made available on the RTE website: http://www.rte.ie

Having played on many shows over the years we were taken aback at the friendly, relaxed atmosphere on and off set. We enjoyed a great day in RTE and wish to thank Pat, Fionnuala, John and, of course, Miriam O’Callaghan for their hospitality. Thanks also to Claire Whelan in MCD for organising the appearance.
